Preach the Word

While Southern Gospel is not everyone’s cup of tea, there are some songs that just herald the majesty of God or offer encouragement to God’s church about either how we live or about the greatness of our mighty king. In my opinion the song ‘Preach the Word’ performed by Gold City is a powerful anthem reminding us that our calling is to proclaim the gospel message to those who have not heard it.
The lyrics come from 2 Timothy 4 where Paul presents a charge to Timothy to be faithful in his ministry and to preach the word of God.
“In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: Preach the Word;” 2nd Timothy 4:1-2 [NIV]
There is not much that can be added to Paul’s charge that he doesn’t himself state in the rest of 2nd Timothy 4. This call is not just for Timothy, but for all Pastors, all Sunday school teachers, and in fact all who would call themselves a Christian.
If you need a reminder of what our calling as the people of God is, take a few minutes to listen to this song. The lyrics are good, but when you add the music that was composed by Jim Davis, it is hard not to hear the song and not want to share the gospel.

There is truth in our world, and it lies within the word of the One who created the world. It is my prayer that my thoughts and writings echo this truth and inspire you to seek it for your life today.
