Let’s Talk About Love – Getting Started!

My favorite chapter of scripture is 1 Corinthians 13, also know as the “Love Chapter” o the Bible. It is not a chapter about the twisted ” romantic issues the Corinthian church struggled with, see chapter 5; nor is it about how we are to love fellow believers, see chapter 8. 1 Corinthains 13 is about the love of God!

1 Corinthians 13 can be broken down into three sections. Verses 1-3 describe the necessity of love in our lives. Then, verses 4-8 provide the attributes or characteristics of love. Finally, verse 9-13 clarify the supremacy of God’s love. That is a great bit of information about love in 13 verses, but a pastor could write a new sermon from this chapter almost everyday!

Personally, my conviction is that the description of love from this chapter of scripture is the only description of love a person needs. Some might disagree, but it was this kind of love Christ commanded his disciples to love each other with in John15:12. Likewise, it was this kind of love that Paul would challenge husbands to  give to their wives in Ephesians 5. Even if scripture did not validate my stance on what love is, do you honestly think Christ-like living would allow for anything less than God’s love all the time?

Since 1 Corinthians is the starting point I intend to use in future, related writings, I would simply ask those who intend to read future posts to give that chapter a read. Dive into it and see what God teaches you! I know it is a chapter you will come to … love … for the amazing truths and wonderful thoughts it presents.

There is truth in our world, and it lies within the word of the One who created the world.  It is my prayer that my thoughts and writings echo this truth and inspire you to seek it for your life today!
