The Temptation: It seems inevitable; that long, exhausting battle with a particular sin continues to end in failure. You really want to live a good, holy life, but there are a few old habits that just do not seem to be going anywhere. Perhaps you even find yourself ready to give in again, or maybe even give up on the higher calling we have in Jesus. It’s not like we can really live righteous lives anyway, right?
Battles with Lust: I was made with these desires, so what good does it do to hold them in? (If you have God’s word in your heart, you may recall that when we walk by the Spirit, we will be lead away from natural desires. Galatians 5:16)
Battles with Honesty: I’ve tried honesty, and honestly it seems to make situations worse. (Keep in your heart that God’s word tells us plainly that we are not to bare false witness. Exodus 20:16)
Battles with Loving Others: My sibling burns bridges faster than I can build them, so why bother with them anymore? (God’s word in your heart may remind you that we do not know God if we do not love. 1 John 4:7-8)
The Challenge: It may not be as easy as I make it seem, but God’s word tells us how we can have victory over sin. Obviously though, victory over sin does not come without some work. Your heart will not tell you what God expects if it has not been taught His truth. Just as Jesus did when He fought Satan’s temptations, you and I will find victory in the Word of God!
