‘Praise the Lord! For it is good to sing praise to our God; for it is pleasant, and a song of praise is fitting.” Psalm 147:1 ESV
While very simple, ‘I Love you Lord,‘ has had a special place in my heart since my early days sitting in the third row of seats at Calvary Baptist Church. Written by Laurie Klein, who has served in various churches, this tune can probably claim a prominent role in the rise of praise songs, and modern worship. Just eight lines of words, the words to this song have a strong ability to focus the singer on worshiping God.
Worship comes from an adoration for God and what He has done for us. As the above Psalm reminds us, when we consider who it is we are worshiping, it is right and fitting to praise the Lord. This song’s simplicity keeps the singer focused on the act of expressing our love to God. Even better, after acknowledging our affection for God, the song proclaims that we want the offering our of soul and mouth to simply bring joy to God. ‘I Love You Lord,’ is a great song because it keeps us on task and focuses our hearts on just worship.
So, this Saturday night, take a moment, hear the song, and remember that as you enter your worship service tomorrow, you are hoping to offer simple, genuine worship to the Lord. – Timothy
